Capture the buildings and spaces that shape Singapore

  Published: 03 June 2015

Some places just say “Singapore”: the coffee shop that hosts uncles enjoying their morning kopi, the neighbourhood library where students hang out and (sometimes) study, the office tower with suited workers rushing in and out.

In celebration of SG50, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) is seeking the best shots of places that have shaped Singapore into the home we know and love. We want to see the scenes that say “Singapore” to you.

The “50 years: buildings and spaces that shape SG” photo competition invites entries that capture people enjoying the buildings and spaces that are familiar, striking and dear to them – whether housing blocks, parks or skyscrapers.

The public can take part in the Open Category and Instagram Category. An entry can only be submitted for either category, not both. For the Instagram Category, simply make sure your Instagram profile is public, and hashtag your entry #shapingSG to be in the running!

Participants will be competing for prizes worth $10,980 in total. The winner of the Open Category will win $3000 cash and a $300 course voucher from the School of Photography, while the winner of the Instagram Category will win $500 cash and a $100 course voucher from the School of Photography.

The closing date for entries is 3 July 2015. To take part in the competition, please go to ura.sg/photocomp.

The photo competition is supported by our prize sponsor the School of Photography Singapore and partner, the Photographic Society of Singapore.

My Favourite Public Space exhibition

The winners of last year’s “My Favourite Public Space” photo competition will be exhibited at the Singapore City Gallery, from 3 June to 3 July 2015. The photographs will be displayed at the gallery’s new space “The City Canvas”, dedicated to showcasing artworks by the community.

Located on the third storey of the Singapore City Gallery, “The City Canvas” provides the public with a platform in the city to share their memories and perspective of Singapore. For use of “The City Canvas”, please contact ura_gallery@ura.gov.sg.
