Details of Guidelines

PAVING MATERIALS

  1. All developments located within the Civic District (see Appendix 1) are required to include a covered walkway abutting the site boundaries / lines of Road Reserve. These covered walkways, together with the adjacent open walkways within the Road Reserves, form part of the comprehensive pedestrian network planned for the City Centre and provide pedestrians with an unobstructed all-weather route.
  2. URA and the LTA have since the 90s been upgrading the public walkways according to the adopted paving material for the Civic District. URA and LTA have also been guiding all new development works and existing buildings undergoing redevelopment or major Addition & Alteration works to upgrade the paving along the covered walkways and adjacent open walkways within the Road Reserve in accordance with this set of guidelines to achieve a distinctive district character of the area.
  3. The covered and open walkways along the ‘Celebration Route’ (see Appendix 1) are required to be paved in predominantly 600mm x 600mm flamed finish heavy duty Rossa Porrino (or equivalent) granite tiles, set out perpendicular to the line of Road Reserve. The covered and open walkways along the ‘Heritage Route’ are required to be paved in predominantly 600mm x 600mm flamed finish heavy duty Green Quartzite (or equivalent) granite tiles, set out perpendicular to the line of Road Reserve.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. All proposals involving repaving of the covered and open walkways within the Civic District are required to be submitted formally to LTA’s Development and Building Control Division and URA’s Development Control Group for approval as part of the Development Application process. To ensure that the paving design and material are considered as an integral part of the design of the development, the paving proposal must be submitted as part of the development plans at the Provisional Permission (PP) stage.
  2. 5.The proposed paving materials for the covered and open walkways are to be annotated on the submission drawings and the tiling layout reflected on the 1st Storey Layout Plan for the development. A sample of the paving material is to be submitted for evaluation and approval by the URA.
  3. 6.Applicants are required to co-ordinate the detailed layout and interfacing of the paving with that within the covered and open walkways of the adjacent developments.
  4. Any subsequent changes to the materials for the covered walkways within developments and the adjacent open walkways within the Road Reserve are required to be submitted to LTA and the URA for evaluation and approval.
