Growth Areas

Following the rapid development of the city centre and the Jurong Industrial Estate as the nation’s business and manufacturing cores, various regions across the island have been earmarked as future growth areas. This is anticipation of their transformation into more office and industrial hubs to meet a wider range of economic needs, giving business sectors space to expand or alternative space options, and to allow for a diversification of employment areas.

In Master Plan 2014, we have identified these five Growth Areas:

West Region

Woodlands Regional Centre

The growth of the Woodlands Regional Centre will anchor the development of the North Coast into an innovative corridor buzzing with ideas, creative design and new technologies.

Jurong Lake District

Jurong East, together with Jurong Lake, offers an exciting opportunity to be developed into the biggest lakeside destination for business and leisure. The two areas are jointly known as the Jurong Lake District.

City Centre

The growth of the existing CBD is not confined to Marina Bay alone. The Beach Road / Ophir-Rochor Corridor area will have additional opportunities for new large-scale commercial and mixed-use developments to further catalyse Singapore’s transformation into a vibrant global city.

Paya Lebar Central

Paya Lebar Central will be a bustling, integrated commercial node with offices, retail and attractive public spaces flowing with activity. The distinctive local identity will be enhanced with the future Wisma Geylang Serai and a new pedestrian mall and plaza space along Geylang Road.

The Punggol Digital District will bookend the North Coast Innovation Corridor, housing technology firms involved in key growth fields such as cyber-security, as well as fostering industry-academia collaboration at the new Singapore Institute of Technology Campus.
