Today, Bedok Stadium is well-used by residents for a variety of sports, including jogging, soccer, and tennis. Residents can also visit other sport facilities in the East, such as Tampines SAFRA and Heartbeat@Bedok, to pursue interests such as swimming and rock climbing.

Plans are being studied to redevelop and refresh Bedok Stadium for Easties to get active with even more diverse community and sport offerings.
Potential civic district at Paya Lebar Airbase
History taking flight in a new residential town
Paya Lebar Airbase (PLAB) will be progressively redeveloped into a new town once the existing airbase relocates in the 2030s. The area’s rich aviation history will provide a unique backdrop for future recreation and community spaces.

Conceptual Plan for Redevelopment of Paya Lebar Airbase
Repurposing our spaces in Paya Lebar Airbase
Former airports and military airbases around the world have been adaptively reused in many interesting ways, which we can learn from:

Aircraft Hangars and the spaces around them can be converted for sport uses, outdoor performances or for festive celebrations.

A section of the runway and taxiways can be converted to a public park, for people to enjoy biking, kite flying and many other recreational activities.

The Terminal and Control Tower can be home to new uses such as an indoor bowling alley, arcade and restaurant, or even an aviation-themed brewery.

Former airport buildings could be repurposed as startup spaces. The open spaces between these airport buildings can be used to host community activities such as outdoor performances.
Outdoor community aerospace museum

A future museum in Paya Lebar could be integrated within the civic district, with public spaces infused with heritage exhibits and artefacts such as planes.
Repurposed Tanah Merah Viaduct and Changi Depot

Upcoming East Coast Integrated Depot (ECID) at Koh Sek Lim Road
The upcoming East Coast Integrated Depot (ECID) will replace the existing EWL Changi Depot to serve as a depot for three MRT lines (EWL, TEL and DTL) in 2026. Parts of the existing rail viaduct near Tanah Merah MRT station will be decommissioned and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) plans to repurpose a section of these spaces into a green and active mobility corridor. We can also consider repurposing a train shed in the old Changi Depot for temporary community uses.
