The kampung houses on Ubin are valuable cultural assets and form a significant part of Ubin’s rich cultural heritage. As part of a broader effort to preserve this heritage, the Ministry of National Development (MND) and NParks are planning to roll out a Kampung House Restoration Programme. For a start, five vacant kampung houses will be restored and adaptively reused for community or commercial uses. Restoration works will be guided by the Guidelines for Kampung Houses at Pulau Ubin [PDF, 1.49 MB] to ensure that the restored houses retain their original character.

North-East Waterways

The promenades along our waterways at Serangoon Reservoir, Punggol Reservoir and My Waterway @ Punggol are popular with cyclists and other recreational users. There is potential to further enhance our waterways into active spaces for water activities and connect them to our recreational nodes such as the Punggol Regional Sports Centre, SAFRA Punggol and Anchorvale Community Club.
Park at Sengkang West

The proposed park at Sengkang West Industrial Estate aims to provide a green respite amidst the urban landscape, and an opportunity to inject more greenery and recreation for both residents and workers in Sengkang. The park will feature lush landscaping to strengthen the ecological connectivity in Northeastern Singapore.
Creating a vibrant community node at Yio Chu Kang MRT
Agencies are currently studying possible plans to rejuvenate the area around Yio Chu Kang MRT, including the possibility of redeveloping Yio Chu Kang Sport Centre. There are opportunities to reimagine the facilities with residents and transform the area into a destination that fulfils sporting, wellness and healthcare needs.

To support better active living and ageing in place, sports, health and medical services could be brought closer to communities in and around the Yio Chu Kang area.
There are plans to introduce possible dining and retail options here. The area can be seamlessly connected to the North-South Corridor and the larger commuting and recreational cycling routes within the North-East Region.

The North South Corridor (NSC) is a multi-modal transportation corridor with an underground expressway and an at-grade road that will be repurposed to prioritise walking, cycling, public transport and the creation of more public spaces. At 21.5 km long, the NSC will connect Ang Mo Kio residents to the north and the city. With more space reclaimed for pedestrians, residents can look forward to more opportunities for recreation and social activities.
