Northern Gateway: powering industry and workspaces

The region houses a significant concentration of Singapore’s general industry and advanced manufacturing activities that span from Yishun to Sungei Kadut. It is also home to Woodlands Regional Centre, the economic hub of the North, while Lim Chu Kang supports local food production and horticulture activities. In the coming years, the industrial estates at Sungei Kadut will be progressively rejuvenated to better meet future industrial needs.

Growing the Woodlands Regional Centre

The economic hub of the Northern Gateway will have enhanced connections to other parts of Singapore and Johor Bahru, benefitting Woodlands Town and the wider North Region. It will also benefit from the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.

Meeting the needs of future industries

Several new industrial estates are being developed for emerging industries.

Sungei Kadut Eco-District transforms the existing sites at one of Singapore’s oldest industrial estates for industries such as agri-tech, environmental technology and built environment. The DTL2 extension, linking up the North-South Line and Downtown Line, will provide greater connectivity to the district.

Gali Batu Industrial Estate next to Sungei Kadut will be developed with an Integrated Construction and Prefabrication Hub (ICPH) and complementary activities, which will support our construction sector. Further, agencies are studying the potential to construct underground cavern facilities for aggregate storage at Gali Batu.

A reservoir of energy

Plans are underway to develop Singapore’s largest floating photovoltaic farm at Kranji Reservoir, with a capacity of 112.5 MWac (141 MWp). This new source of low-carbon energy will help Singapore meet its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 as part of the Singapore Green Plan 2030.
