Enhancing stewardship
Building on a science-based approach, plans will guide how nature is protected and integrated with development, balancing environmental needs with Singapore’s limited land.
We will continue to adopt a science-based approach to guide the planning of our green and blue spaces, and to balance the trade-offs between development needs and nature. To this end, NParks embarked on an islandwide Ecological Profile Exercise (EPE) to map out the ecological profile and connectivity of green spaces across Singapore.

Given our physical constraints and scarce land area, there will be some greenfield sites that we might have to develop to meet our land use needs. With findings from the EPE, we can identify key development areas near to ecologically sensitive areas upfront and undertake the relevant studies early to see how developments can be sensitively designed.
