About
This pair of three-storey Art-Deco and five-storey Modern style shophouses (Nos. 46 & 47) used to house businesses that were part of a thriving wholesale, import and export industry centred near the Singapore River. The styles demonstrate changes in building technology and architectural taste as seen through the use of concrete and steel and pared-down ornamentation.
Due to substantial ground movement, the two buildings became structurally unsafe and had to be reconstructed. With careful documentation including measured surveyed drawings and archival photographs, the shophouses were revived with faithfulness to the originals and have helped to preserve the historic streetscape.

All proposed works will need to comply with the Conservation Guidelines and the Specific Restoration Guidelines (SRG). Conservation Permission is required before all additions & alteration works and operations of new use can begin.
