Land-based site investigation works for 'Long Island'

As part of the ongoing technical studies for ‘Long Island’, land-based site investigation works will be carried out at selected locations along East Coast Park from September 2026 to Q1 2027. These works will gather more information about the geological conditions around the area, which will guide the detailed design and planning for ‘Long Island’ reclamation works. These site investigation works are not part of the preparatory works for ‘Long Island’.

During this period, a few soil investigation rigs will be temporarily stationed at various locations within the working boundary shown in the map below. The works will be localised, temporary in nature and are expected to have minimal impact on the environment and existing activities. Signs will be put up along East Coast Park to inform the public of the site investigation works.

Park and beach users can continue to enjoy their usual activities. For your safety, please observe on-site safety advisories and keep clear of the temporarily hoarded work areas.

Environmental Study (Part 2) for reclamation works

The ongoing Environmental Study (Part 2) assesses the potential environmental impact of the future reclamation works for ‘Long Island’ and is expected to be completed in the next few years.

Concluded works

Marine site investigation works for ‘Long Island’

As part of the technical studies for 'Long Island' reclamation works, HDB carried out marine site investigation works in the waters off East Coast Park from August 2025 to April 2026.

The works entailed collecting soil samples and conducting surveys to better understand the geological and seabed conditions in the area, to help inform the planning and detailed design for ‘Long Island’.

The marine site investigation works have since concluded and no pollution or environmental impact was observed during the works.

Environmental Study (Part 1) for preparatory works

The Environmental Study (Part 1) was conducted from February 2025 to June 2026, which assessed the potential environmental impact of the preparatory works for ‘Long Island’. The report was published for public feedback for four weeks from 30 June 2026 to 28 July 2026. Agencies are thoroughly reviewing all feedback received and will incorporate suitable suggestions before finalising the report and mitigation measures to be adopted.
