Increasing community spaces
Plans aim to create more shared community spaces in neighbourhoods, giving residents more opportunities to meet, interact, and build stronger social connections.
To create more community spaces, we will continue to adopt creative strategies to put our limited land to good use. For example, we are studying the potential to convert and design more under-utilised spaces, such as the rooftops of car parks, to accommodate community activities such as urban farming.
Another example is the Dual Use Scheme, which allows the community to make use of school sports facilities during weekends. To facilitate time-sharing and better use of facilities, we are working with the Ministry of Education to explore how some new schools could be planned and designed upfront to incorporate facilities that can be shared with residents. This will provide more community spaces for social interactions and help us better optimise the use of our city’s limited space.

Community stewardship is an important ingredient to ensure the success of these spaces. We will continue to support and facilitate community-led initiatives to enliven everyday spaces.
