About
This pre-war building was previously the Damenlou Hotel. Its name was inspired by the da men (大门) — a large gateway that supposedly once stood at the nearby junction of Club Street and Cross Street. Such was the prominence of the gateway that the area was colloquially known as da men nei (大门内), meaning "within the large gateway."
The History
For many, the former hotel was known for serving the famous fish head bee hoon (rice vermicelli) created by Tang Kwong Swee in the 1920s.
The Legacy
The building has been restored and its once underutilised roof terrace now offers good views of the surrounding area.
Guidelines and Procedures
