About
This pre-war terrace house is located on Kim Yam Road, named in 1899 after Wee Kim Yam (1855–1914), a prominent Teochew businessman who dealt in the highly lucrative opium and spirit farm business and served on various public service committees, including the Chinese Advisory Board, the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Committee, and the Po Leung Kuk.
The Building
The house features timber window screens and a beautifully carved half-length timber door known as a pintu pagar at the first storey. These are traditional provisions that allow residents to open the windows and main door while still maintaining privacy.
The Legacy
The house was restored in 1992, with unique features such as the cistern with lion's head spout at the airwell carefully retained.
