Historic address: 165-167 Penang Road

About
This pair of Edwardian-style semi-detached houses was built in the late 1910s on what used to be part of Thomas Oxley's (1805–1886) 173-acre nutmeg estate. The houses were the property of Mirza Mohamed Ali Namazie (1864–1931), a prominent businessman of Persian descent who built Capitol Theatre.
The History
Originally addressed as 4-A and 4-B Oxley Road, the houses were accessed by a private lane off Oxley Road. In the late 1960s, Penang Road was extended in front of the houses to connect with Somerset Road.
The Legacy
After being accorded conservation status in 1995, the houses underwent restoration works by Wing Tai Asia from 1996 to 1997, which restored them to their original glory.

All proposed works will need to comply with the Conservation Guidelines and the Specific Restoration Guidelines (SRG). Conservation Permission is required before all additions & alteration works and operations of new use can begin.
