About
Located along Orchard Road, this area contains 13 units of two- and three-storey buildings with a rich and diverse mix of architectural styles, ranging from the Eclectic style with its ornate and decorative Classical features to the simpler Art Deco style. Built in 1928, this building was originally conceived as a townhouse with commercial space on the ground floor and residential apartments above.
The History
Over the years, the building served a variety of uses, including as a furniture shop, an eatery, and a department store.
The Legacy
Today, with its restoration, this old landmark brings a new sense of vibrancy to the historic stretch of Dhoby Ghaut. The area was accorded conservation status on 21 November 2000.
Guidelines and Procedures
All proposed works will need to comply with the Conservation Guidelines and the Specific Restoration Guidelines (SRG). Conservation Permission is required before all additions & alteration works and operations of new use can begin.
Residential Fronts are characterised by timber casement windows flanking a double-leafed timber door. All buildings with residential front which is existing and/or identified in the 'Specific Restoration Guidelines', regardless of land use zoning, shall be retained and restored.
