Historic address: 19 Koon Seng Road

About
This pre-war terrace house and the other terrace houses along this stretch of the road showcase some of the finest examples of Straits Eclectic architecture in the neighbourhood.
The History
Formerly known as Lorong E East Coast, this road was renamed in 1934 after Cheong Koon Seng (1880–1934), a prominent auctioneer, Municipal Commissioner, and Justice of the Peace.
The Building
Chinese influence on the architecture is evident in the first storey bat-shaped vents, which symbolise good luck. Malay influence can be seen in the timber fretwork fascia boards, while Western influence is reflected in the plasterwork featuring dentils and floral swags.
Guidelines and Procedures
All proposed works will need to comply with the Conservation Guidelines and the Specific Restoration Guidelines (SRG). Conservation Permission is required before all additions & alteration works and operations of new use can begin.
