Bungalow Guidelines
Geylang Conservation Area
Historic address: 6 Lorong 29 Geylang

About
Originally built as residences, this pair of pre-war Art Deco bungalows at 6 & 10 Lorong 29 Geylang was for many years the premises of a luggage company before being accorded conservation status in 1991 and subsequently restored for residential use in the mid-1990s.
The Building
The Art Deco style bungalows are characterised by the use of geometric shapes in the design of the casement and transom windows, as well as in the moulded plaster relief representation of a torch on the column capitals.
The Legacy
An opening specially created in the new development at the front of the site ensures that at least one of the two bungalows remains visible from the street.
Guidelines and Procedures
All proposed works will need to comply with the Conservation Guidelines and the Specific Restoration Guidelines (SRG). Conservation Permission is required before all additions & alteration works and operations of new use can begin.
Residential Fronts are characterised by timber casement windows flanking a double-leafed timber door. All buildings with residential front which is existing and/or identified in the 'Specific Restoration Guidelines', regardless of land use zoning, shall be retained and restored.
For conserved shophouses with proposed rear extensions in Geylang Conservation Area, the new extensions are subject to the Geylang Urban Design Guidelines.
