About
This terrace house is one of a set of three similar houses supposedly built by the Pineapple King, Lim Nee Soon.
The History
On 21 May 1916, this house was the venue of a joyous occasion — the marriage between Tan Beng Choon, son of Tan Ban Haw, and the daughter of Wee Swee Chee.
The Building
Designed in the eclectic Singapore Baroque style, the house features pedimented pilasters, Regency style fanlights, majolica tiles, and a Chinese style canopy.
The Legacy
Behind the charming façade, the interior has been sensitively reconfigured. The new swimming pool on the roof terrace at the rear is a good example of how heritage houses can be adapted for contemporary living.
Guidelines and Procedures
All proposed works will need to comply with the Conservation Guidelines and the Specific Restoration Guidelines (SRG). Conservation Permission is required before all additions & alteration works and operations of new use can begin.
Residential Fronts are characterised by timber casement windows flanking a double-leafed timber door. All buildings with residential front which is existing and/or identified in the 'Specific Restoration Guidelines', regardless of land use zoning, shall be retained and restored.
