More Convenient and Connected Homes

The West Region will see significant improvements in public transport connectivity with new MRT lines and stations, allowing residents to enjoy better access to live, work and play opportunities.

New homes and amenities near public transport nodes

In the coming years, the region is set to benefit from improved rail connectivity. More homes will be built near MRT stations and Integrated Transport Hubs, ensuring added convenience and shorter commutes for work, play and learn. Other homes will be sensitively located near green spaces, providing opportunities to connect with nature.

New areas where housing will be introduced include Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Batok, Tengah, Jurong Lake District, south of Taman Jurong as well as around upcoming Cross Island Line stations at Clementi and West Coast.

Supporting healthy and active lifestyles

New sports and healthcare facilities will make it easier for residents living in the region to stay active and healthy.

Clementi Stadium and the former West Coast Recreation Centre will be redeveloped. Set for completion by 2030, the new stadium will feature softball and baseball fields, a running track, and various community sport facilities.

The new Central Manpower Base (CMPB) at Bukit Gombak will house a number of public amenities and facilities, including a football field, fitness station, outdoor running trail, food court and childcare centre.

New and redeveloped polyclinics will open in Jurong East, Jurong West, Clementi, Tengah and Yew Tee to meet the healthcare needs of residents.

Improving healthcare in the West

Tengah General and Community Hospital will be a new integrated general and community hospital that will serve the growing population in the West Region.

Bringing a new buzz to the hood

The Heart of Yew Tee will provide housing options for seniors in the neighbourhood when it opens in 2027. It will also feature a variety of amenities, including a new hawker centre, a community club, a polyclinic, retail shops and a community plaza to enliven Yew Tee.

Enhancing rail networks

Residents, workers and visitors can look forward to better public transport connectivity and shorter travel times to other parts of the island with the progressive opening of the Jurong Region Line, Phase 2 of the Cross Island Line, Downtown Line 2 Extension, and new stations along the existing North-South Line and Downtown Line.

Jurong Region Line

Jurong Region Line (JRL) is currently under construction and is expected to open in stages from 2027 to 2029. It will improve connectivity to key activity nodes in the region, including Jurong Lake District, Jurong Innovation District, Nanyang Technological University and Jurong Industrial Estate. 60,000 more households in the West region are set to be within a 10-minute walk of a train station when the JRL opens.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced plans for the West Coast Extension, which will extend the Jurong Region Line to connect to the Cross Island Line and the Circle Line in the late 2030s and 2040s respectively.

North-South Line

The future NS3A Station, located between Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Gombak MRT Stations on the North-South Line (NSL), will complete in 2034.

Cross Island Line

Phase 2 of the Cross Island Line (CRL) will introduce four new stations (Maju, Clementi, West Coast and Jurong Lake District) in the West Region when it opens by 2032. Jurong Lake District will have a direct connection to Changi Airport when the CRL is extended to the new Terminal 5. Studies are ongoing to extend the CRL further west as part of its Phase 3 implementation to improve public transport connectivity.

Downtown Line

Hume MRT Station on the Downtown Line (DTL) opened in February 2025, improving rail access for residents in the Hillview area and visitors to landmarks such as the Rail Corridor, Former Bukit Timah Fire Station and Former Ford Factory.

Two new stations will be implemented as part of the Downtown Line 2 extension. They will connect Bukit Panjang MRT Station to a new aboveground station between Yew Tee and Kranji stations on the NSL.

Future rail lines

Feasibility studies are underway for a new Tengah Line to serve areas such as Tengah, Bukit Batok, Queensway and Bukit Merah.

Improving connectivity

Travelling around the region will be greener and more convenient with safer and better connections for walking, cycling and taking public buses.

Jurong Gateway Hub located in Jurong East will be the fifth Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) in the West Region, joining existing ones in Boon Lay, Clementi, Joo Koon and Bukit Panjang. When completed in the coming years, the new ITH will connect the bus interchange located within the development with the adjacent Jurong East MRT Station. The development will also include offices, shops, and public amenities such as a library, community club and sports facilities.

The Friendly Streets initiative by LTA aims to make daily walking journeys safer, more convenient and comfortable. It has been implemented in Bukit Batok West and West Coast, and will be introduced in Bukit Panjang, Choa Chu Kang, Jurong East, Jurong West and Boon Lay.

Hillview Connect opened in April 2025 to improve pedestrian connectivity and vehicular traffic flows between Hillview Avenue, Upper Bukit Timah Road and Dairy Farm Road. The 250 metre-long unique link is the first road to be built under the Rail Corridor, providing an alternative road access and a rooftop green oasis for residents. The design also promotes active mobility through pedestrian-friendly ramps and pathways, improving travel time, accessibility and safety for road users.

Residents in Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang Towns have been enjoying improved active mobility and safer commuting. The cycling networks in Bukit Batok, Clementi and Jurong West will be further expanded in the coming years to improve first- and last-mile connectivity.
