How '20 Under 45': Fourth Edition architects are giving back
Beyond just designing buildings, the '20 Under 45': Fourth Edition architects are nurturing the next generation and creating more vibrant public spaces.
What it means to be an architect
Over 60 students visited seven ’20 Under 45’ architectural firms in November 2025 to learn more about architectural work and what it means to be an architect.
The seven firms and organisations who hosted the students were: K2LD Architects, DP Architects, Kaizen Architecture, Freight Architects, OMG Atelier, Housing & Development Board, ASOLIDPLAN.

Creating engaging public spaces
’20 Under 45’ architects are also giving back to the community, creating attractive public spaces in Katong-Joo Chiat with a beautiful mural and unique benches.

Blueprint of a Shophouse (at 462 Joo Chiat Road) By ’20 Under 45’ fourth edition architects Lee Hui Lian and Lim Pin Jie), together with Jerome Ng and Shivshankar Nair.
This fun and colourful mural on the side wall of 462 Joo Chiat Road reveals the intricate spatial richness of the shophouse typology, reflecting Katong-Joo Chiat's history and future. This is supported by the Lively Places Fund.

When surfaces speak (in front of Katong Square) By ’20 Under 45’ fourth edition architect Goy Zhenru, together with Kathlyn Lay and Deborah Wong.
Building on the spirit of the Katong Square Antique Centre, the benches celebrate historic objects, places and spaces, repurposing embossed cement sand tiles handmade in Indonesia. This is supported by the Lively Places Fund.
Guiding youths on shaping Singapore's public realm
Three ’20 Under 45’ fourth edition architects (Chia Yu Hsien, Ng Ching Hsiung and Chaw Chih Wen) shared their insights and advice on public space proposals by tertiary students as judges in the 16th edition of the Challenge for the Built Environment (CUBE).
CUBE is an annual workshop cum competition for tertiary students to learn about being planners and architects for a week. The 16th edition in November 2025 was attended by 60 students from 12 schools, with ideas to transform 12 public spaces near their schools.
