Historic address: 50 Emerald Hill Road

About
This house is part of a row of eight terrace houses from 38 to 52 Emerald Hill Road designed in 1908 by d’Almeida & Kassim for a Teochew cloth merchant, Hing Pang Kiat (1860 - 1930) of Chop Say Ee Heng at Circular Road. Hing Pang Kiat lived at 44 Emerald Hill Road.
Over the years, insensitive renovation works caused the loss of the house’s traditional charm – the exterior had been stripped off its original windows, decorative mouldings as well as its Chinese style canopy. In restoring the house to its original glory, timber window screens as well as a half-length timber door, known as pintu pagar were also introduce at the 1st storey. These features are traditional provisions which allow the resident to open the windows and main door, and still maintain privacy.
Guidelines and Procedures
All proposed works will need to comply with the Conservation Guidelines and the Specific Restoration Guidelines (SRG). Conservation Permission is required before all additions & alteration works and operations of new use can begin.
