Historic address: 30 Bukit Chermin Road
About
The bungalows on Bukit Chermin belong to a very specific period of the "Black & White", or Tropical Mock Tudor, house — a style that emerged rapidly in the early 1900s and disappeared equally swiftly in the 1940s, representing a unique architectural phase in the history of Singapore.
The Building
House No. 30 is the grandest and largest of the four existing bungalows on Bukit Chermin. Due to its size and seafront location, it is believed to have been inhabited by a high-ranking port official, possibly the portmaster. It can be seen clearly from Tanjong Berlayer, at the eastern end of Labrador Park.
Guidelines and Procedures
All proposed works will need to comply with the Conservation Guidelines and the Specific Restoration Guidelines (SRG). Conservation Permission is required before all additions & alteration works and operations of new use can begin.
Residential Fronts are characterised by timber casement windows flanking a double-leafed timber door. All buildings with residential front which is existing and/or identified in the 'Specific Restoration Guidelines', regardless of land use zoning, shall be retained and restored.
