About the Architectural Heritage Awards
Learn more about the Architectural Heritage Awards (AHA), established in 1995 to recognise well-restored monuments and conserved buildings in Singapore, and the people behind them.
Besides honouring best practices in technical restoration, AHA also spotlights projects that sustain and strengthen the intangible values of heritage buildings for the community. The key objectives of AHA are as follows:
Acknowledge and celebrate the involvement of diverse expertise and stakeholders, including allied professionals and the community (i.e. Building Owners, Architects, Engineers, Contractors, Conservation Specialists, M&E Engineers, Material Restoration Specialists, Interior Designers, Lighting Designer and Landscape Architects etc.);
Broaden the scope beyond technical proficiency to emphasize the intangible, long-term values that heritage buildings bring to the immediate community and to Singapore;
Foster inclusivity through recognising projects which resonate with a broader audience;
Promote ongoing commitment to the maintenance and management of heritage buildings.
At the formative stages of our [conservation] journey, partnerships were key, and they remain so today. […] Conservation is not adequate on its own without the participation of communities to keep the memories of the earlier days alive.— Excerpt from speech by then-2M Desmond Lee at the 2019 Architectural Heritage Awards
