80-year-old creates space for cyclists of all abilities
In the quiet and tranquil West Coast Park (near Car Park 1), 80-year-old cyclist Malcolm Chen has brought new life to a cosy corner by transforming a shipping container with vibrant artwork.

Volunteers paused for a well-deserved lunch break after a morning of painting together
"The mural on the container celebrates inclusivity, kindness, and the joy of sports and the arts," says Malcolm. The container houses equipment for his cycling events, including specially designed bicycles for people with different abilities.

Celebrating collaboration - URA's CEO, Malcom and artist Shafyre, who helped bring the mural project to fruition
Malcolm, a long-time cycling enthusiast, founded Ageless Bicyclists Ltd in 2015, inspired by his mother's values of caring for people of all ages. The mural came to life through the efforts of volunteers from diverse backgrounds.

Cycling made inclusive - bringing people of different ages and abilities together to share the joy of cycling
The transformed container has become more than just a colourful landmark - it's now a gathering place for the Ageless Bicyclists community, where Malcolm offers free cycling activities to people of all ages and abilities.

Volunteers gathered in the park to celebrate the launch of the mural and the Ageless Bicyclists hub
Looking ahead, Malcolm envisions more enhancements for this corner of the park. "We can explore drawing a snakes and ladders game on the ground for people to play," he suggests.
This public space enhancement is supported by the Lively Places Fund, a joint initiative by URA and the Housing & Development Board, together with the National Arts Council, who supports artists who contribute to public space projects. Members of the public can apply for this fund to enhance community spaces across Singapore.
