CIRCULAR TO PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES
Who Should Know:
Architects, designers, curators, researchers, built environment professionals
Effective Date:
22 May 2026
As Co-Commissioners, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and Design Singapore Council (Dsg) invite compelling and innovative curatorial proposals for the Singapore Pavilion at the 20th International Architecture Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia, running from 8 May to 21 November 2027.
This will mark Singapore's tenth participation in the Venice Architecture Biennale since 2004. In alignment with the curatorial direction of the Biennale’s Artistic Directors Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu, this edition calls for a critical re-evaluation of time, memory, and material culture in shaping the built environment. We seek a clear compelling idea that can be developed into a thought-provoking and exploratory exhibition that positions itself as an architectural inquiry, expanding beyond the display of completed works. The proposal should demonstrate how Singapore's approaches to vernacular modernism, adaptive reuse and contextual design contribute to global architectural discourse through deep investigation and critical examination.
The lead applicant shall be Singapore-based with good understanding of, and strong connection to, the Singapore architectural landscape. Multi-disciplinary teams comprising architects, designers, artists, curators, urban planners, researchers, educators, and built environment professionals are encouraged to apply. More details of the Open Call can be found in Annex I [PDF, 654 KB], with Annex II [PDF, 170 KB] for additional information and answers to frequently asked questions.
Open Call documents may be downloaded at https://go.gov.sg/2027-sg-pavilion-open-call-documents. Entries shall be submitted at https://go.gov.sg/2027-sg-pavilion-venicebiennale by 4pm on Friday 17 July 2026. Late entries will not be accepted.
