Shaping Singapore: From the Garden City to our City in Nature
For many visitors, and even locals, the first impression of Singapore begins the moment they arrive via Changi Airport: lush, tree-lined roads that set the tone for a city in nature. These iconic roads were designed in 1978 by Otto Fung, Singapore’s first landscape architect, who also designed beloved spaces like East Coast Park and Labrador Park.
Step into the exhibition “Shaping Singapore: From the Garden City to our City in Nature” and discover the stories behind these beautiful landscapes. On display are Otto Fung’s designs alongside rare archival materials that trace how Singapore’s landscape has evolved over the decades, from the design of a pond in the Istana, to green spaces in Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
The exhibition reflects 40 years of the Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects’ (SILA) contributions in shaping Singapore’s green spaces, parks and nature spaces.
Selected materials from the exhibition will be contributed to the Singapore Architecture Collection that documents and captures Singapore’s architectural and urban design journey.
