Identity – The Essence of the East

The East Region enjoys a rich heritage and identity. From storied Changi to the food oasis of Siglap - the East is home to multiple buildings, places and spaces that and hold special meanings.

Amenities that strengthen the identity of the East, as well as town squares and new hawker centres that encourage social interaction will be implemented to rejuvenate mature estates like Bedok.

Improvements and Sensitive Redevelopment

As we continue to retain the rustic ambience of Changi, heritage buildings like the former Commando Headquarters have been sensitively restored and adapted for use in the new Changi Cove Hotel. Other colonial era buildings have been given new leases of life as restaurants or through other suitable uses. The much-loved hawker centre at Changi Village has also been renovated, while the Civil Service Club is being redeveloped with new facilities. At Changi Point, the handsome ex-British military colonial-era buildings are being refurbished for new uses. These include a high-end corporate training centre for a major international bank, boutique hotels and F&B, as well as spa and fitness centres.
