An exciting Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2018 will bring hopes and dreams to the Bay this December, with a myriad of programmes hosted at four experiential activity hubs across Marina Bay and the Civic District. Culminating in a spectacular visual display of light projections and fireworks at midnight, Singapore’s biggest New Year’s Eve celebration this year will bring people from all walks of life together to ring in the New Year. Presented by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the event will feature an exciting line-up of activities, including carnival rides and games, a charity trail, outdoor activities and crowd-favourite light projections and fireworks.
From as early as 8 December and throughout the rest of the month, the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown will see activities held at various public spaces around Marina Bay, bringing greater vibrancy to the live-work-play precinct. Spanning two activity hubs, The Promontory and Bayfront Event Space, the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival promises to be a treat for people of all ages. Set against the backdrop of the city skyline, the carnival will feature over 40 rides and games assembled from different parts of the world. From roller coasters to water rides, the carnival will cater to thrill-seekers and offer family-friendly entertainment at the same time. Theme-based entertainment and installations at the carnival will add colour and fun to the year-end festivities, while music bands will serenade audiences on weekends. Food lovers can also indulge in a gastronomical journey with the variety of culinary delights on offer. The carnival will be opened from 4pm daily starting 8 December. Entry is free, while ride tickets and game coupons can be purchased on-site. On New Year’s Eve, The Float @ Marina Bay will be transformed into another activity hub to provide a front-row fireworks viewing experience. Ticket holders to The Float @ Marina Bay can shop for F&B and lifestyle products at an outdoor bazaar or enjoy a picnic while awaiting the midnight fireworks. Tickets to this hub are priced at $5.50 each and can be purchased on the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown website from today. The Prudential Marina Bay Carnival and the hub at The Float @ Marina Bay are organised by Pico Pro Pte Ltd. The countdown activities on New Year’s Eve will extend beyond Marina Bay to the adjacent Civic District. The Civic District will be transformed into a car-free zone, forming a larger celebration area to enable more people to join in the festivities and collectively usher in the New Year. At the Civic District activity hub, the public can enjoy free outdoor activities such as the Health Promotion Board’s Fitness Countdown Workout Extravaganza, a sunset yoga session by Yoga Seeds, group exercises by ActiveSG, movie screenings and music performances by local talents at the National Arts Council’s Music@Empress. With a variety of food options at an F&B bazaar, the public can also enjoy picnics while counting down to midnight. At National Gallery Singapore, the opening hours of exhibition galleries will be extended to 10pm, while opening hours at Asian Civilisations Museum will be extended until midnight. Admission to the galleries of both attractions is free from 5pm, allowing revellers to enjoy indoor exhibits before the countdown. Themed as “Bay of Hopes and Dreams”, the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown will see event partners and stakeholders around the precinct holding activities for the public to join in the season of giving to those in need. From 10 December, the public can participate in a charity trail consisting of activities organised by several Marina Bay stakeholders and stand a chance to win prizes. They can take part in the activities through “LocoMole”, a smartphone application that uses augmented reality technology to help users find event hotspots. The public can also donate to or volunteer for charities adopted by the stakeholders. Part of the charity trail will form the route of the “2KM Fun Run” category in Santa Run for Wishes organised by Make-A-Wish Foundation on 9 December. In the spirit of giving, the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival will host the beneficiaries of Make-A-Wish Foundation on a day out after the run to enjoy stage shows, rides and games. The December activities will lead up to New Year’s Eve when revellers can look forward to hourly visual displays featuring light projections and fireworks through the night. For the first time, the light projection on the façade of The Fullerton Hotel Singapore will showcase wishes penned by the public, starting 26 December. The public can submit their wishes reflecting their hopes and dreams on the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown website from 8 November until 31 December 2017.
