The last three weeks have seen locals and visitors heading to Marina Bay to enjoy the light art installations at i Light Marina Bay 2017, with the festival set to attract more than 800,000 visitors by the time it closes. Organised by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the fifth edition of Asia’s leading sustainable light art festival will continue to welcome visitors to enjoy a night out at Marina Bay until this Sunday.
Running from 3 to 26 March along the Marina Bay waterfront, the festival features 20 light art installations designed by local and international artists based on the theme “Light & Nature”. Created with environmentally-friendly materials or energy-saving lighting, the installations highlight the importance of sustainability and reinforce Marina Bay’s position as a sustainable precinct.
Complementing the light art installations are three themed festival hubs organised for the first time – Art-Zoo for imaginative play, GastroBeats for food and music and The Fantastical World of eco.me for sustainability-themed activities. The Fantastical World of eco.me has completed its run on 12 March, while Art-Zoo and GastroBeats remains open until the end of the festival to welcome families and food lovers.
Art-Zoo, held at The Float @ Marina Bay, houses 11 giant animal and plant inflatables set in an imaginative play-garden to teach children and families about wildlife and creating a sustainable world through a visual adventure. Ticketing details on Art-Zoo can be found on www.artzoo.sg.
At GastroBeats held at the Bayfront Event Space, food and music lovers can grab gastronomic delights from food artisans, indulge in some old-school fun with carnival rides, as well as dance away at Silent Disco where participants wear wireless noise-cancelling headphones to enjoy live-streamed music of their choice at the Marina Bay City Gallery.

The light art installations, together with the festival hubs, has drawn more people to the Bay this year to enjoy the various elements of the festival. By the time i Light Marina Bay 2017 closes this Sunday, a preliminary estimate of more than 800,000 people would have visited the festival – the highest visitorship the festival has seen so far.
Mr Jason Chen, Festival Director and Director (Place Management) of URA, said, “The highly-Instagrammable and interactive light art installations – which are the highlights of the festival – have helped to increase awareness of the event and attract visitors since its opening on 3 March. The thematic festival hubs, with their fringe activities which cater to different interests and demographics, have also added vibrancy to the festival. We encourage those who have not visited the festival to come by this weekend to catch the installations and activities, and have a memorable experience.”
i Light Marina Bay 2017 will be on from 3 to 26 March. The 20 light art installations will be on display from 7.30pm to 11pm daily with an extension to 12.00mn on Fridays and Saturdays, around the Marina Bay waterfront. Visit www.ilightmarinabay.sg for more information.
