In celebration of Singapore's 58th birthday, members of the Urban Sketchers Singapore have come together to feature the places and spaces around our city-state that hold special significance to them. From heritage areas and traditional places of worship, to the neighbourhoods we grew up in, nature spaces we enjoy, and even key landmarks of our city, Memories @ 58 represents the many facets of our tiny red dot and how these have left an indelible mark on each artist. 

All the artworks featured in the exhibition are drawn on-location from direct observation, according to the Urban Sketchers ethos. Each sketch is complemented by a note from the artist, recollecting his or her favourite memory of the place. The collection showcases a wide variety of sketching styles and reflects the unique perspective of each artist captured with pencil, ink, and colour on paper, canvas or through pixels.

While the sketches depict the artists' memories, they are also a record of Singapore's transformation since we gained independence in 1965 and how our city continues to be distinctive and endearing. Memories @ 58 hopes to inspire you to appreciate the beauty and diversity of our cityscape through the eyes of the sketchers, and cherish the memories and experiences that Singapore has to offer.

About Urban Sketchers Singapore

Urban Sketchers Singapore is part of a global community of sketchers from all walks of life who enjoy sketching scenes of where they live and travel. The Singapore chapter was started in 2009 and has grown over the years into a lively community drawn together by their love for sketching. It has since published two volumes of collections of sketches and has participated in other publications as well as local and overseas events.
