ABOUT

The former Traffic Police Building was built in 1928 as Police Barracks to serve as living quarters for married junior officers of the Metropolitan Police Force. A few years later in 1932, the former Customs House was built by the Public Works Department to house the Customs and Excise Department and the Film Censors Office. Both Neo-Classical buildings are elegantly proportioned and treated to emphasise their importance as government buildings, and their iconic and stately presence contributes to the historic character of Maxwell Road. The two buildings were given conservation status on 2 April 2007.
