The building was the former headquarters of the famous Khong Guan biscuit firm (established in 1947). It was constructed by the firm of Chung Swee Poey & Sons, who were commissioned by Khong Guan as their company architects since the 1950s. This building is a landmark in the MacTaggart Road Industrial Area, one of the earliest of such areas to be set up after World War Two. The building was given conservation status on 27 December 2005.
