REPUBLIC POLYTECHNIC
9 Woodlands Ave 9
DP Architects Pte Ltd with Maki & Associates

  • Conceived as an "Innovative Learning Hub", Republic Polytechnic's ideology of a non-(or minimal) lecture based approach to tertiary education reflected the need for a campus environment that is catered to the changes and developments in the education system, as well as one that is in line with the high-tech digital age.
  • A central nucleus was designed with eleven identical learning pods - 40 metre by 40 metre blocks that are eight to nine storeys high - and the Faculty Centre. These pods, which house the Study Clusters and Dry Labs, encapsulate the idea of dissemination, exchange and resolution of information.
  • Unified by two elliptical decks of common facilities, namely the Lawn and the Agora, these two areas form an expansive, continuous student/semi-public domain for cross-disciplinary interaction. The campus is also planned into the existing Regional Park contours, which allow the surrounding greenery to gently spill into the campus grounds.
