For
a snapshot of Singapore’s evolution, look no further
than the changing roofscape at the city waterfront, along
historic Singapore River and Raffles Place, the financial
and business hub.
Indeed, our signature city skyline today - a carefully
sculpted, stepped centrepiece rising from the water’s
edge - is one of the first things that strike and captivate
many visitors as they approach the city centre from the
airport. And it is gracing the latest series of five stamps,
recently launched by Singapore Post on 24 Mar 2004.
In the next phase of Singapore’s growth, much of
the action will be focused on Downtown at Marina Bay,
the future extension of the Central Business District.
The exciting skyline taking shape over this hub will mirror
our city’s growth and add on to its attractiveness,
vibrancy and distinctiveness.
| Did
you know that most of the skyscrapers at Raffles Place
are relatively young, built between the 1960s and
1980s? An ongoing “Singapore Skyline Exhibition“
tells the story of the changing faces of our city,
through stamps, pictures, old maps and paintings of
the island’s evolving skyline. It is on till
27 Jun 2004 at Singapore Philatelic Museum, 9am -7pm
(Tue - Sun) and 1pm – 7pm (Mon). |
