From new green spaces to additional shopping belts, better community facilities, enhanced transport network and greater commercial spaces, a whole range of goodies for the West and North Regions have recently been unveiled by URA.

More housing choices
If you are thinking of moving to the West or North, you can be assured of plentiful choices and variety of homes. Additional 68,000 new housing units have been planned for the West Region and 43,000 for the North.

For those who want to live close to their parents or enjoy the established amenities in existing housing estates, the West will have new homes built in Clementi, Jurong East and Jurong West, and Yishun and Woodlands in the North. Residents in the North Region can choose to live close to Woodlands and Sembawang MRT stations as two high-density White sites are being planned for. Besides convenience, future residents can enjoy a mix of retail, offices and entertainment developments.

New facilities at our convenience
For those who value the convenience of facilities available at their doorstep, the West and North Regions offer a whole range of new facilities coming up in the next few years, from hospitals to schools, community clubs and sports complexes (see here).

More green spaces for everyone
Nature lovers will be in for a treat with an extra boost of 730 ha of additional natural and green spaces for the North and 160 ha for the West.

The North Region offers a wide range of recreational choices set amid greenery. You can hike in the Central Catchment along new trails and boardwalks, or do bird-watching along the edge of Kranji Reservoir, or visit the Lim Chu Kang farms via new nature trails. If you want to get close to the waters, check out the extended Seletar Reservoir Park, the new Woodlands Regional Park and the tranquil Springleaf Park. You can also cycle or jog along future park connectors from Woodlands all the way to Yishun or from Admiralty Road East to Sembawang Shopping Centre.

For the West Region, the 160 ha of additional greens include new town parks, park extensions and park connectors. Existing parks like Choa Chu Kang Town Park, Bukit Batok Nature Park and Clementi Woods Park will be extended. Interim parks and greens will also be introduced like the 12-ha interim green bordering Dairy Farm Nature Park.

This is great news for nature lovers such as C.F Pang, 61, who has been living in Jurong for the past 10 years. He goes for walks in the nearby park every morning and evening and drives to the fish farms at Neo Tiew Crescent to buy fresh fish on some weekends. The retiree said, “I like living here. It is quiet and has its own rustic charm.’’

Beyond new green spaces, natural areas will be retained for as long as possible.
