Included in the Fairy Point Hill site, the former Command House - a heritage building to be conserved.

Oriental shophouse charm

Purchasing a piece of history - that is what the successful bidders and tenderers of the conservation shophouses did. The final batch of conservation shophouses in Chinatown on 99-year leases, formerly known as Tenement House, were launched by URA on 11 April 2002.

Flanking Upper Cross Street, New Bridge Road and Mosque Street, these 21 four-storey conservation shophouses in 10 land parcels are heritage buildings that have to be restored according to a set of conservation guidelines for commercial use.

Out of the 10 land parcels, URA successfully sold five of them by public auction on 16 May 2002. The prices ranged from $2.8 million to $6.48 million for parcel sizes ranging from 380 sq m to 520 sq m. The remaining five parcels were sold by public tender which were awarded on 31 May 2002.

Colonial heritage by the sea

An attractive and charming recreational seaside resort and destination - this is URA's vision for Changi Point. And this vision is now one step closer to reality.

On 30 April 2002, URA placed the land parcel sitting atop the Fairy Point Hill at Changi Point on our Reserve List, making it available for interested developers to submit an application for it to be put up for tender, if their price is right.

The site with an area of 4.1 hectares is to be sold for recreation club, holiday chalet or hotel development or a combination of these uses. Situated in a tranquil setting within walking distance to Changi Beach, it is superbly located with recreational facilities and food outlets nearby.

Chinatown shophouses: Formerly known as 'Tenement House', a common term used to describe the living quarters of civil servants in colonial times.
