GARDENS IN THE SKY

The sky's the limit, even when it comes to greenery!

Moving greenery vertically up into the sky and closer to individual homes will be the next phase of making Singapore truly a city in the garden.

URA has already relaxed some development control guidelines to encourage skyrise greenery, such as allowing the gross floor area (GFA) of balconies in residential and mixed-use developments to be over and above the Master Plan allowable GFA, and exempting the GFA of sky terraces.

Some types of skyrise greenery are:

Vertical greenery

Greenery planted at different levels of a building's facade

Landscaped roof terraces

Rooftops of buildings usually offer good opportunities for landscaping.

Landscaped sky terraces and balconies

Sky terraces and balconies can offer greenery that is directly accessible from high-rise homes.

Landscaped sky bridges

Sky bridges link different blocks at vertical intervals and landscaping can create pleasant communal spaces.

Landscaped lobbies

Landscaped lobbies allow a continuous vertical experience of greenery from the ground to high-rise homes.
