GOVERNMENT'S 1996 SALE OF SITES PROGRAMME FOR
PRIVATE RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT
The main objective of the Government Land Sales Programme for private residential development is to make sufficient land available to meet Singaporeans' aspiration of owning private residential properties. The long term target is to have a private housing vs public housing mix of about 25% : 75% by year 2010. The Government is committed to a steady land release policy to meet this long term target.
For 1995, the Government has committed to release land for 6,000 units a year for private residential development. Land for a total of about 4,700 units has been released so far. Land for another 1,300 units (the last batch for 1995) will be released in Jan 1996 to meet the committed quantum for 1995.
For the 1996 residential land sales programme, the Government will continue to release sufficient land for the development of about 6,000 private housing units. The detailed list and plans of the residential sites selected for the 1996 land sales programme are at Annex I and Annex II respectively. The 24 sites amount to a total land area of about 71 ha. Of the 6,000 units expected to be generated from these sites, about 25 per cent are landed properties.
