The conservation of historic buildings and areas is an integral part of city planning. This allows Singapore to preserve its colourful past and retain its identity as an Asian city of heritage. URA identifies buildings and areas for conservation. They include Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam, while significant buildings like City Hall and the Supreme Court were gazetted as national monuments by the Preservation of Monuments Board. As at
31 Mar 2012, there are over 7091 buildings conserved.
